Thanks to all who attended the T and Sale at the Anna Templeton. To those who supported the inaugural debut, A Line of Crows place mats and napkins, I thank you for all your feed back, encouragement and interest.
This was an old window on Bond Street,St John's Nl. I was photographing this window for a multiples project given me by my art teacher. I took the first a picture January 4th 2010 through to early March, every day . On the last day of this project the window had been replaced. I 'd taken a number of pictures throughout this time where the shadows were cast at different positions on the old building, taking full advantage of the light and shadow effects that were created. There seems to be a kind of magic in documenting the small ordinary things of a a city. I really enjoyed this process.
I had decided to dedicate some of the work in Running with Scissors, to my teachers and mentors at the Anna Templeton. There are cultures where the teacher is honoured and greatly appreciated and I have always though that whoever imparts knowledge for your growth and well being then they at the very least entitled to the largest portion of your respect.
I have now gotten all the placemats and napkin ready for the T and Sale at the Anna Templeton this Weekend. Jenny Rocket is helping out theses this week to my great delight with the sewing and the moral support. I spent most of the day in the dye studio - dyed some wonderful colours on cotton today in, reds, greens and browns. Dying material is one of the most satisfying things to do, it is like alchemy, magic really. Here are some of the colours Ive been using for the placemats . Ill post the newest colours soon.
The days are getting colder here in St. John's, NL, but my work keeps me warm and cozy...
I am working on a line of home decor items called 'A Line of Crows', consisting of place mats, napkins, and table runners. Each piece is hand dyed, and the place mats feature a hand embroidered crow. I work with 100% cotton, and a variety of colours. Place mats are about 18" x 15", and the napkins are 15"x15".
These functionally beautiful creations will be for sale at the Anna Templeton Tea and Sale, December 10 &11, and at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto in March.
